Forte da Ponta das Eiras ou Castelinho

It was built after the attack to Velas by the privateer Du Guay Trouin as he, after being repealed from the Port of Velas by the cross artillery from the forts of Santa Cruz and N. Sra da Conceição, disembarked on that area.

Its use was fleeting as, in the 19th century, it ready displayed some signs of vandalism and complete abandonment. Nowadays, it is possible to observe a small part of the old wall and a touristic viewpoint, which reuses the layout of the original fort with, possibly, eight cannons.
