Império do Divino Espírito Santo
The impérios [Small Temples] are buildings aimed for the exhibition of elements of the Holy Spirit’s cult, namely the crown, the banner and the staffs.
This small chapel is quite sober, entirely painted white and only with a cross on top of its façade. In this location, the traditional curd cake, which is typical from the Holy Spirit’s festivities, is maintained and it is essentially cooked on the Holy Spirit and Trinity’s weekend. This sweet dough cake has the unique feature of including, in its ingredients, the milk curd, which is obtained from the milk’s fermentation process for the production of cheese.
In the bodos de leite, a “group” of 10 people are responsible for its organization and costs. During the weekend, the traditional rosary in honour of the Holy Spirit is prayed and on the Thursdays of the Holy Spirit and Trinity, small “biscuits or sweet bread” are offered to the participants on the rosary, besides the traditional “toast” with sweet treats and drinks. On Sunday, the small chapel is opened throughout the day and the “biscuits or sweet bread”, cheese and wine are offered to all those who visit it. At lunch time, the traditional soups of the Holy Spirit are served to the guests and, at dinner, the soups are served to the entire population.
