Casa dos Tiagos

In the Azores, the magnificent buildings connected to the old residences of the Major-Captains, responsible for the population and administration of these locations, are frequent. The construction of House of Tiagos is assigned to the last Major-Captain of Topo, Tiago Gregório Homem da Costa Noronha, in the 19th century.

Throughout the next century, this residence is degraded, being completely ruined after the seismic crisis of 1964. However, considering its high heritage value, the property and the associated chapel were recovered, keeping the original layouts.

Currently, it serves as the Parish Council of Topo and ethnographic house with the support of the Francisco de Lacerda Museum, which tries to promote exhibitions and activities in this location, whenever possible.
